The Size Electric Motor to Power 17 Inch Prop 30ft Steelhull?

Could you explain your question. If you are considering a "battery" / Solar power etc. It's impractical. Your better off sticking with a gas/diesel engine. In order to get above walking speed, you would need about 150 shaft HP, and a DC motor would cost many thousands of dollars and weigh say 3000 pounds. Then operating through a gear box and electric controller (a few $$$$$) more dollars it would power the boat. Then using the best battery technology available and weighing another ton or so, you might have a range of 10 to 12 miles and a speed of say 5 mph. The Batteries could cost $1TKO $10 K. A Steel 30' hull would need 500 HP to reach the 25 mph range.

One of a couple of causes. The breaker on the motor could be bad. The motor could be bad and pulling too much current. It is also possible that the installed wiring or the breaker in the box could be bad. Does the motor sound like it is running correctly when you hold the reset button in or does it sound like it is running slow? If possible and you can do it safely, can you measure the voltage while the compressor is running? If it is low, there is probably a bad connection in the wiring going to the compressor. Do you have an amp meter? If so, measure the amperage going to the compressor while it is running. If the amperage is 10-15 amps without much pressure in the tank and the voltage is correct, I would say that the breaker in the motor is bad. Did you wire it up with a plug and receptacle or direct? If it is not direct wired, does one of your neighbors have a receptacle that you could plug it into and see if it is the wiring or do you have a welder or something else that requires 240 V that you can plug into the receptacle and see if it works? My son recently got a 240 V air compressor and a 240 V MIG welder. We just use them at my dad's shed on a 50A 240 V receptacle. I did wire up a 30 or 40 A one in my shed, but I do not think we have plugged anything in to it yet

It depends on the size of the pulley on the winch, and on the mechanical advantage of the winch. Is mtr meter? "m" is the correct abbreviation. If we assume a pulley diameter of 0.5 meter and a 4 to one advantage in the winch, then the lifting speed of 30 m/min (0.5m/sec) translates to a rotation of the pulley as follows. 0.5 meter diameter is 1.57m diameter. 0.5 meters is 0.3 diameters. In one second. Which means a rotation rate of 0.3/sec. 4:1 mechanical advantage in winch means rotation rate of 0.3x4 = 1.3/sec. Gear box of 30:1 increases this to 38 rps or 0.63 RPM. In radians per second this is 38*6.3 or 240 rad/sec Weight of 1000 kg and a pulley of 0.5m diameter translates to a torque of 1000*0.25 or 250 kg-m. This torque is reduced by the 4:1 and 30:1 mechanical advantages, so torque needed at the motor is 250 / 120 or 2.1 kg-m. this translates to 21 N-m P = torque x speed P = 21 x 240 = 5 kW or about 0.7 HP Of course, we have considered none of the losses in the pulley, winch, gearbox or motor. You would need a 2 HP motor with losses. Motor is turning at about 1 RPM, much too slow, you need a larger gearbox. Or a smaller pulley or both. which will reduce the HP needed. edit, I read it as 30m/s, I will recalculate. arithmetic needs checking
