Professional career of ACES

Houston TexansMcManis was drafted by the Houston Texans in the fifth round (144th overall) of the 2010 NFL Draft. He signed a four-year, $1.982 million contract with the Texans on May 27.

Chicago BearsOn August 31, 2012, McManis was traded to the Chicago Bears for fullback Tyler Clutts. In Week 9 against the Tennessee Titans, McManis blocked Brett Kern's punt, which was recovered by former Northwestern teammate Corey Wootton, who returned the blocked punt for a touchdown. McManis was eventually named the NFC Special Teams Player of the Week. McManis was placed on injured reserve on December 11. In the 2015 season, McManis had 11 special-teams tackles, which led the team.

On March 10, 2016, McManis was re-signed by the Bears to a two-year contract.

On March 22, 2018, McManis signed a two-year contract to remain with the Bears. Since 2012, McManis has been Chicago's special teams ace, spending time as a captain while making 80 tackles in that time entering the 2018 season. In Week 3 against the Arizona Cardinals, McManis recorded his first interception since 2010 off Sam Bradford's pass to Chad Williams. Later in the season, he became the Bears' starting nickelback after Bryce Callahan suffered a season-ending foot injury.

In week 5 of the 2019 season against the Oakland Raiders, McManis forced a fumble on Trevor Davis on the goal line in the 2421 loss. He was placed on injured reserve on November 30, 2019.

McManis signed a one-year extension with the Bears on April 16, 2020. As of the 2020 season, McManis is the longest tenured Bears player, having played under four different coaching regimes dating back to Lovie Smith in 2012.

Currently, IFES has programs in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Georgia, Kosovo, Kyrgyzstan, Macedonia and Ukraine as well as a regional program across Europe.

Gladych did reach the UK in 1940, attending 57 OTU before transferring to the famous No. 303 Polish Fighter Squadron in October 1940, although again records suggest a later arrival in 1941. He claimed 3 Bf 109's shot down and a probable in 2 sorties on 23 June 1941, although after the second sortie he then crashed his damaged Spitfire at RAF Manston, and hit a telegraph pole, receiving a fractured skull, facial cuts, and a fractured collarbone.

Gladych returned to operations in October 1941 and was transferred to 302 Squadron "City of Poznan' in July 1942, joining it after recuperative leave in December 1942. By May he was a flight commander and had been promoted to Flight Lieutenant.

Gladych detailed in a magazine article years later (Real magazine, New York, AprilMay 1960) another encounter with Hauptmann Georg-Peter Eder. After crippling Gladych's Spitfire in the spring of 1943, yet again Eder flew alongside his victim and waggled his wings, before flying away.

The two aces possibly met in combat once more in 1944, when again Eder shot up Gladych's P-47 aircraft over Vechta, but the Pole cleverly tricked Eder by flying through the German flak barrage to escape. (Apparently in 1950 Eder and Gladych met by chance at a pilots reunion in Frankfurt and managed to confirm they had been adversaries in each case.)

Another story relating to Gladych is that in the autumn of 1943 Gladych mistakenly almost shot down the aircraft carrying Prime Minister Winston Churchill. RAF Fighter Command grounded Gladych as a punishment.

Middleton returned for a second tour of combat duty on the Western Front as a flight leader in Number 48 Squadron of the newly founded Royal Air Force. He was still piloting Bristols. He reopened his victory list shortly after his return, on 17 April 1918, shooting down on Albatros D.V and driving another down out of control. He scored doubles on both the 3rd and the 8th. He then switched gunners, from Captain Frank Godfrey to British Lieutenant Alfred Stanley Mills. With Mills in the rear seat, Middleton ran off five more wins in May, ending the month with 18 victories. In June, Middleton switched back to Godfrey in the back seat, and scored five more victories, followed by another in July. On 3 August, Middleton was awarded one of the first Distinguished Flying Crosses.

There was a lapse in victories until September; then Middleton resumed with Mills once again teaming as his gunner. Middleton and Mills shot a Hannover C down in flames on 15 September, followed by two Fokker D.VIIs destroyed on 20 September.

Middleton was the fourth highest scorer of the 44 aces in 48 Squadron. His 27 victories came overwhelmingly over German fighter planes; only three of his wins were over enemy reconnaissance craft. Three of the observer/gunners he had teamed with became aces in their own right; Merchant with 8 wins, Mills with 15, and Godfrey with all 12 of his victories won from Middleton's rear seat.

Scott first served as a private in the 14th (County of London) Battalion, The London Regiment (London Scottish), Territorial Force, until commissioned as a second lieutenant in the 8th Battalion, The Duke of Cambridge's Own (Middlesex Regiment) on 26 February 1915. On 27 September 1916 he was seconded for duty with the Royal Flying Corps, and appointed a flying officer (observer).

He was posted to No. 20 Squadron RFC to fly with Captain George Reid, as observer/gunner in a F.E.2b fighter/reconnaissance aircraft. Between 29 July and 21 October 1916 Scott and Reid accounted for four enemy aircraft destroyed (one shared) and two driven down out of control.

Scott was promoted to lieutenant on 1 November 1916, and his award of the Military Cross was gazetted soon after on 24 November. His citation read:

2nd Lt. Laurence Henry Scott, Middlesex Regiment.

"For conspicuous gallantry in action. He and his pilot pursued a hostile aeroplane for some six miles into the enemy's territory and there shot it down. He has on many previous occasions done very fine work."On 13 July 1917 Scott was appointed an assistant instructor in gunnery (graded as an equipment officer, 2nd class). and on 1 January 1918 was appointed an instructor in gunnery (equipment officer, 1st class) with the acting rank of captain.

He was transferred to the RAF's unemployed list on 20 April 1919, returning to serve in the 8th Battalion, Middlesex Regiment, until finally relinquishing his commission on completion of service on 1 September 1921.

In his book Real Magic (1971), Bonewits proposed his "Laws of Magic." These "laws" are synthesized from a multitude of belief systems from around the world to explain and categorize magical beliefs within a cohesive framework. Many interrelationships exist, and some belief systems are subsets of others. This work was chosen by Dennis Wheatley in the 1970s to be part of his publishing project 'Library of the Occult'.

Bonewits also coined much of the modern terminology used to articulate the themes and issues that affect the North American Neopagan community.

Pioneered the modern usage of the terms "thealogy," "Paleo-Paganism," "Meso-Paganism," and numerous other retronyms.

Possibly coined the term "Pagan Reconstructionism," though the communities in question would later diverge from his initial meaning.

Founded Ar nDraiocht Fein, which was incorporated in 1990 in the state of Delaware as a U.S. 501(c)3 non-profit organization.

Developed the Advanced Bonewits Cult Danger Evaluation Frame (ABCDEF).

Coined the phrase "Never Again the Burning."

Critiqued the Burning Times / Old Religion Murray thesis (in Bonewits's Essential Guide to Witchcraft and Wicca).

In his book Real Magic (1971), Bonewits proposed his hypothesis on the Laws of Magic, which were then elaborated in his RPG supplement Authentic Thaumaturgy. The book makes is clear it is an adaptation of the ideas from Real Magic to gaming with the Laws presented being abbreviated from those in Real Magic.

On July 18, 2006, Snow officially confirmed his retirement and was named general manager of the New York Islanders following Neil Smith's dismissal after 41 days on the job. There was much criticism directed the Islanders' way for firing a Stanley Cup-winning general manager after such a short tenure in favor of Snow, who at the time of his hiring held no experience in management. Defenders of the organization pointed to Snow's master's degree in Administration and bachelor's degree in Business Administration from the University of Maine.

In Snow's first season as general manager, he earned praise for making moves to open up space under the salary cap and using the space to trade for Marc-Andr Bergeron, Richard Zednk and Ryan Smyth. Snow was named NHL Executive of the Year for 200607 by Sports Illustrated.

On November 15, 2010, Snow fired head coach Scott Gordon and promoted Jack Capuano to interim head coach after the Islanders suffered a poor record of 4103 in their first 17 games of the 201011 season. Capuano went on to guide the Islanders to their first playoff series win since 1993 during the 2016 playoffs. On January 17, 2017, Snow fired Capuano and promoted Doug Weight to interim head coach in response to the Islanders' record of 17178 through 42 games of the 201617 season, which was ranked last in the Eastern Conference at that time. Through the 201718 season, his tenure with the Islanders saw the team accrue 11 playoff wins.

On June 5, 2018, Snow's position as Islanders' general manager was terminated, although he remained with the organization through 2019.

Racing at age two, Vaguely Noble finished second in his first two races then won his last two, including the Observer Gold Cup by seven lengths, pulling up, to end the 1967 season. In December 1967 he was sold at auction by the Estate of Major Lionel B. Holliday, for 136,000 guineas ($342,720), a record price for a racehorse. He was purchased by Albert Yank, acting as an agent for Dr and Mrs Franklyn.

In 1968 he was sent to race in France where his conditioning was taken over by Etienne Pollet. Vaguely Noble won four of his five starts including the Prix de Guiche (by 3 lengths), Prix du Lys (by 8 lengths), Prix de Chantilly and France's most prestigious race, the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe at Longchamp defeating the brilliant Derby Stakes winner, Sir Ivor. Vaguely Noble, Ribot, and Sea-Bird were generally considered to be the three greatest winners of the world's premier race, the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe.

Vaguely Noble was regarded as one of the best European gallopers of the post World War II-era after winning six of his nine starts in England and France for the equivalent of US$366,647 in prize-money, and earned a Timeform rating of 140.

In 1968 a 25% share in Vaguely Noble was acquired for $1.25 million by John R. Gaines of Lexington, Kentucky to make this a world record stallion syndication valuation of $5 million. Vaguely Noble was sent to stand at stud at Gainesway Farm in Lexington.
